Follow This Guide to Send Music Demos To Record Labels
Now that you’ve recorded your voice reels, you might be looking for a way to get them to record labels. But with so much competition out there, it’s hard to cut through the noise. You can follow these simple steps to take your demo to the next level.
Research on recording labels
Before you start giving your recording out, you should do your research on record labels. Think about the kind of band that would support your profile. Find out what labels your favorite bands work with. If you find some new artists that are similar to yourself, you should try to know them on a personal level and find out the labels they work with.
Learn demo policies
Once you shortlist some labels, you must find out the demo policies of these labels. Due to legal policies, many labels put restrictions on the kind of demos they accept. So you should find out about the acceptable type of demos, their formats, mailing addresses, follow-up rules, etc. before reaching out to the record label.
Keep your vocal reel short and sweet
Short vocal reels wouldn’t include more than 2 to 3 of your best songs. Many record labels open every single demo they get. And they quickly reject them if you don’t seem presentable. So, try to keep everything simple. Try to be to the point with your band introduction and label your demo with your name and email address.
Follow Up
Do not be too anxious about getting a reply from the record label. If they have listed a follow-up policy, you should stick to that. Even if they haven’t listened to your demo yet, you shouldn’t be contacting them too often. An occasional email, once or twice a month would do.
Be ready for rejection
Don’t expect to get a ‘yes’ from all the recording labels. If they didn’t like your demo, you should ask them for feedback, advice, or any kind of suggestions they have that might improve your demo.
